Tax Extension

Filing an extension is a normal part of the tax process. An extension gives you more time to file. It does not extend the time to pay.

Timeline

6 Months to File (and Our May–August Workflow)

  • What the extension does: Typically gives you 6 more months to file.
  • Our firm’s extension-season filing: We generally complete extended returns in May–August.
  • Start Week selection: If you file an extension with us, you’ll be asked to pick a Start Week sometime between May–August.
  • Why May–August helps: Great if you need more back-and-forth—missing documents, updates, or extra review.

An extension gives us the runway to ask questions, gather what’s missing, and finalize accurately—without rushing.

How Extensions Work

An extension changes your filing deadline. If you may owe tax, you can choose to make an optional payment now to reduce any amount due when the return is filed.

If you want, we can suggest an optional amount based on the information available.

Audit risk: Filing an extension does not increase your chance of an audit.

Extensions are for current ProFiler clients only. New to us? Please complete our New Client intake first.
